Blades sign California native Goeckner-Zoeller

Minor-league hockey seems about as distant from an Ivy League university as you can get, but that's the path Grant Goeckner-Zoeller has chosen.

The Florida Everblades announced on Wednesday that Goeckner-Zoeller, a 2007 Princeton grad, is the eighth player signed by the team for the upcoming season. Other new signees include rookie forward Kyle McAllister, forward Brad Herauf (from the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies) and forward J.B. Bittner (from the ECHL's Augusta Lynx). Back from the 2006-07 season are defensemen Brett Peterson and Steve Czech and forwards Brad Zancanaro and Jarret Lukin.

At least five Blades players from last season will not be back. Top scorers Vince Bellissimo and Dustin Johner have both signed with European teams, as has defenseman Chris Dyment. Forwards Reggie Berg and Brad Parsons have announced their retirement, Parsons at the end of last season and Berg just last month.

Actress' mom testifies in Spector trial

LOS ANGELES—The night before she died at Phil Spector's mansion, actress Lana Clarkson went shopping with her mother and bought seven new pairs of shoes, according to testimony prosecutors used to counter defense claims that Clarkson was depressed about her future and suicidal.

Clarkson's mother, Donna, was called to the witness stand Monday by defense lawyers to identify letters found in her daughter's home. But she surprised the courtroom when she revealed the shopping trip when cross-examined by prosecutors—and turned the tables on the defense.

On Tuesday, the trial was to resume with testimony from defense expert and famed forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden.

Spector, 67, a legendary music producer whose "Wall of Sound" technique revolutionized rock music, is charged with murdering Lana Clarkson, who was working as a hostess at the House of Blues nightclub the night they met.

ST. PAUL, Minn., Aug. 10, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Homeowners in Minnesota have filed a class action lawsuit in federal district court against the manufacturer of residential plumbing systems. The homeowners, Denise and Terry Cox from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, started the nationwide class action against Zurn Pex, Inc. and Zurn Industries after brass plumbing fittings used in their home's PEX plumbing system failed shortly after completion of their new home. The failures caused water and other damage at the Cox home.

Pesticide’s Victims Will Finally Come Before Court

Banned Products Return Home after Being Sprayed on U.S.-bound Crops
For the period of May, 2007, the USDA reported the total value of monthly agricultural imports to the U.S. amounted to $6.1 billion. Of that total value, 15 percent arrived here from Mexico, 15 percent from Canada, three percent from Chile and three percent from Brazil (USDA April 2007). Latin American produce historically has found a warm welcome in the U.S.; however, these products often carry on them dangerous pesticide residues. Most recently, on July 18, President Bush set an urgent timetable of 60 days for the newly formed Cabinet-level committee to announce safety limits on produce, especially on food products being imported into the U.S. .
